Wine of the Week: Gran Lopez Airén 2008 Sauvignon Blanc | ||||||
La Mancha, Spain Alc. 11.5% from £4.79 - Waitrose La Mancha may well be a tapas restaurant in East London but more importantly it's a wonderfully arid plateau in central spain that's perfect for ripening Airen and Sauvignon Blanc grape varieties. Fruit grown here achieves a wonderful sweetness that's not too sickly. Bella - the hostess - **** This is utterly delightful. A light crisp wine which is fresh and airy - I'd serve it with Oysters or other fresh seafood. It would complement a green salad or light pasta dish just as well. Billie - the lightweight - **** My favourite so far. It's just like summer in your mouth. It makes me want to recline on a sun lounger and sip it slowly. This is a wine for relaxing with. Vienna - the wine lover - *** Delicious - light, fresh with hints of apple and citrus on the palette. I'm a big fan of the La Mancha region wines in general and this one does not disappoint. Some may argue that it's not that sophisticated but it's absolutely perfect for an after work beverage or an early dinner accompaniment. |
