The 31-year-old R'n'B singer - who filed for divorce from Tameka Foster-Raymond, 38, in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 12 - claimed they had been living apart for almost a year.
In court documents Usher stated that there was "no reasonable hope of reconciliation" and the relationship was "irretrievably broken".
The ?Pop Ya Collar' singer - who has two sons with Tameka, 23-month-old Usher Raymond V and nine-month-old Naviyd Ely - was issued a decree absolute by a court in Georgia, US, last Wednesday (04.11.09).
Nyeisha Dewitt, the best friend of Tameka, insisted they had been the perfect couple when they married in August 2007.
She said: "They seemed to really complement one another in that way and bring out one another's strengths and balance each other out."
Usher - who filed for joint custody of Raymond and Naviyd - had previously spoken about how his sons gave him more purpose in life.
He said: "Before, everything was about accumulation and conquering. Kids give you more purpose. Now it's about transferring the wealth.
"I've got to take care of my babies. I want them to know Dad cared for them, nurtured them."
