Biography - Lleyton Hewitt |  Published by mirko1992 | Lleyton Hewitt was born in Adelaide in 1981. He comes from a family of sporting achievers: His mother Cherilyn Rumball was a champion netball player, his father Glyn was an AFL footballer, and his sister, Jaslyn is a junior champion tennis player. Lleyton began tennis lessons at the age of five and turned pro in 1998, winning his first title in Adelaide. The Davis Cup in 1999 was his 'baptism of fire', and he won the title for Australia (the first time in thirteen years), playing doubles with his hero, Pat Rafter. As of November 2004, he holds 23 singles titles and 2 doubles. Victories include the US Open (2001) and Wimbledon (2002). Currently ranked third in ATP, he is engaged to former world number one, Kim Clijsters. |
