Glitter Roots Are A Thing Now And Everyone On Instagram Is Doing It

We have had hair tattoos, rainbow hair, even mermaid hair and the newest trend on the block is...(drum roll please) glitter roots. It does what it says on the tin and involved literally applying glitter onto your roots.

The trend is actually not that new, Miley rocked the glitter roots back in August, but it seems the trend has finally trickled down to the masses.

The trend pays homage to the 90's, a time when having glitter in your hair was cool AF. And it's also a great way to hide that fact that you need your roots doing.

Although it looks pretty arty, the look is super easy to do. All you need is some glitter - everyone has a jar full somewhere right? - and hair gel. Just mix some clear hair gel with your glitter of choice. Then, using your fingers or a small foundation brush, you paint the gel mix on to your parting. It's that simple!

To be honest when we first heard about this trend we weren't sold - we pictured it looking like sparkled dandruff, but these girls make it look pretty good.

However the trick to achieving this glittery greatness isn’t so much dunking a load of sparkle onto your head and calling it a day. It’s a precise application directly on the roots and spreading the glitter no more than an inch away from the part. So if you're considering trying this #glitterhair look, mix a chunky style of glitter of your choice (finer particles can be too abrasive on your scalp) with a clear hair gel like to give it some stick. Then, use a small brush to paint on the glitter. Up the sparkle even further by using your fingertips to slowly sprinkle on more glitter in places that feel a little sparse, or add decorative stars or sparkly hearts.
