There's A New Thing Called Divorce Selfies And It's Actually Not As Depressing As You Might Think

Unless you've been through it yourself, it seems impossible to imagine what it must feel like to separate from the person you once intended to spend your life with. But rather than commiserating the obviously sad situation, these couples have decided to celebrate instead with the hashtag #DivorceSelfie...

Newly divorced couples have been celebrating their divorce via Facebook and Twitter, using the hashtag #DivorceSelfie to show that rather than regretting the direction of your marriage, you are celebrating the good times you had together and have to come.

Shannon and Chris Neuman (pictured below) began the new trend when they posted a snap on Instagram of them grinning outside of Court after filing for divorce. Since then the picture has been shared over 30,000 times.

Shannon explained the snap in a Facebook post, saying: "We’re smiling because we have done something extraordinary (we think anyway!) We have respectfully, thoughtfully and honourably ended our marriage in a way that will allow us to go forward as parenting partners for our children, the perfect reason that this always WAS meant to be, so they will never have to choose.”

Since then, many couples have posted their happy divorce selfies. Check it out:

It just goes to show that although divorce is one of the hardest things that can happen to a person, there is a way of coming out of it smiling and still affectionate of one another just like these couples.
