If you have been hiding in a cave since yesterday then you may not have seen actress Renee Zellweger's brand new face. And when I say new face, I mean she literally looks like a different person. The Internet had a meltdown when she premiered her new look at the Elle Women in Hollywood Awards this week, and she's taking the route we know all too well when it comes to cosmetic surgery: deny, deny, deny.

There's no question that Renee Zellweger is a great actress, her performances in Jerry Maguire and Bridget Jones's Diary gave hope to shy, vodka drinking, awkward women everywhere. However, Renee hasn't been in a movie since 2010, and she hasn't been in a good movie since 2005. Her newest flick The Whole Truth doesn't come out until 2015, which begs the question, where the eff has she been for four years?

Fans and critics got their answer Monday night at the Elle Women in Hollywood Awards, and evidently girlfriend has spent at least part of those four years under the knife. The reaction to her new look was not does she look better or worse? It was HOLY SH*T she literally looks like a different person.

Cosmetic surgeries and procedures are typically meant to "tweak" a person's look, so when Renee debuted not just a little enhancement here and there, but a face that looks like it could maybe be that of Robin Wright Penn's estranged sister, the Internet FLIPPED out.

Bye, bye old face!

Renee isn't staying schtum on the transformation either. She told critics "I'm glad folks think I look different! I'm living a different, happy, more fulfilling life, and I'm thrilled that perhaps it shows." Uh yeah girl, it shows. She said those closest to her agree: "My friends say that I look peaceful." Which I would like to point out is probably because the whole point of Botox is to paralyse your facial muscles, which is neither here nor there. We're happy Renee is happy, but a friendly reminder for those thinking about going under the knife:

1. You're probably already looking pretty hot the way you are.

2. If you DO choose to go under the knife, try to refrain from making yourself look like someone your grandma with poor eyesight wouldn't recognise.
