All this talk of thigh gaps is beginning to send us all a bit doolally - and we're not the only ones. Sure, we've all heard how Photoshop can create wonderfully longer legs, prettier knees and a Barbie doll cinched waist, but taking chunks out of a model's legs to make sure her thighs aren't touching? Not real life. So. Wrong. What on earth were US retailer Target thinking of?!

American fashion retailer Target has come under fire for making a massive Photoshop boo-boo. The retouched (that word hardly seems to cover it) photos promote the Midkinis swimwear - a brand meant for teenagers. We know, it's seriously effed up.

In one photo, the young model seems to be missing part of her vajayjay and butt cheeks to make way for an awkward looking square thigh gap #photoshopfail.

If that wasn't enough proof that the photos had been tinkered with here's another shocker. Note the unevenly shaped waistline, suspiciously short genitals and sliced shoulder blades. Way off 'Target' if we do say so ourselves.

Not surprisingly these photos have now been taken offline but is it a case of a little too late? Surely more should be done to make sure the young and impressionable are not subjected to images like this or, better still, don't Photoshop legs, bums, tums and any other perfectly normal body parts full stop. Now there's a thought.

On the flip-side, perhaps this is a good thing. It highlights what's wrong with female beauty standards and reveals just how much these images can be messed with before they land on our screens and in magazines.

A representative for Target said: "This was an unfortunate error on our part and we apologize. We have removed the image from our website." An unfortunate error? You mangled her lady regions!

Twitter users have also been joining in the rage against Photoshop and thigh gaps.
